Colorectal cancer, also called colon cancer or bowel cancer, includes cancerous growths in the colon, rectum and appendix. It is the third most common form of cancer and the second leading cause of cancer-related death in the Western world. Colorectal cancer causes 655,000 deaths worldwide per year.[1] Many colorectal cancers are thought to arise from adenomatous polyps in the colon. These mushroom-like growths are usually benign, but some may develop into cancer over time. The majority of the time, the diagnosis of localized colon cancer is through colonoscopy. Therapy is usually through surgery, which in many cases is followed by chemotherapy.

Colon cancer often causes no symptoms until it has reached a relatively advanced stage. Thus, many organizations recommend periodic screening for the disease with fecal occult blood testing and colonoscopy. When symptoms do occur, they depend on the site of the lesion. Generally speaking, the nearer the lesion is to the anus, the more bowel symptoms there will be, such as:

* Change in bowel habits
o change in frequency (constipation and/or diarrhea),
o change in the quality of stools
o change in consistency of stools
* Bloody stools or rectal bleeding
* Stools with mucus
* Tarry stools (melena) (more likely related to upper gastrointestinal eg stomach or duodenal disease)
* Feeling of incomplete defecation (tenesmus) (usually associated with rectal cancer)
* Reduction in diameter of feces
* Bowel obstruction (rare)

Diverticulitiis ( herniated pockets ) of the colon, trap feces (poop) which are just what the word says…trapped and don’t get out. Cleansing your colon: Schedule a colon health plan you feel is right for you (one is suggested on this site). Be sure you have enough daily fiber in your diet. If you have any doubt, take a good daily fiber supplement. Whatever you decide to do is a step on the road to (health) or (sickness and disease). Just look at the statistics. The typical American diet is killing people! By the millions!
Colon Hydrotherapy (colonic irrigations) - usually performed by professionals or best results and as you can imagine, this is no picnic in the park.

Enemas - typically only removes material from the lower part of the colon (last 8-12 inches) and does not address the compaction problem.

Herbal Supplements - while supplements can be effective in bowel emptying, they are not effective in fully cleansing the bowel, removing much of the toxic waste, or improving the health of the good bacteria in the colon. These types of products cause contraction but they do not internally cleanse which is necessary for a long term solution to the problem.
Laxatives - Laxatives are used as temporary treatments of constipation. While they are sometimes effective at helping you out, they do not cleanse. They don’t touch the compaction problem either which is the most troubling to resolve. Further, there are serious complications and side effects including dehydration and loss of muscle around the colon lining.
